FROOT is a pop art series inspired by my years of shooting still life and product photography, primarily for fine jewelry designers. I have been struck by the persistence of classical art motifs like still life painting and their emergence today in advertisements for jewelry or other luxury goods on Instagram and elsewhere online.

This phenomenon could be viewed as a vulgarization of classical art in service of commerce and capital, but these photographs also point to a more subversive understanding of the art form itself, as having always been implicated in commercial transactions of one form or another. The natural forms on display in these photographs are luxury goods in and of themselves. They are not tainted by capital, but are already made of all that glitters. It’s possible to find an element of kitsch in these images as well, but that would only further destabilize notions of the detached, pristine sanctity of classical art. And perhaps all the better.  

All pieces are printed with archival museum quality ink on archival Somerset matte velvet paper for a high quality and contemporary finish that will last a lifetime.
