This course is aimed at both novices in Photoshop and more experienced users. This workshop will focus on lighting and light shaping tools, which are the foundation for all photo techniques, as well as basic tenets of composition. You must understand how light works and how to shape it to create photographs that are both interesting and accurate representations of your jewelry. We will also discuss how to use light to enhance certain features of your designs, such as the choice of metal or gemstones. This is a full-day workshop, and will take place on Saturday, February 4th, 2023, from 10 am to 5 pm EST in our Midtown New York studio.

This workshop will focus on the basics of posing and lighting for portraits and marketing. Participants will learn all about modeling jewelry, modeling in general, and posing in front of a camera with one-on-one instruction from supermodel Jayne Moore and top photographer Alain Simic. This will involve instruction about styling yourself, understanding different kinds of lighting and how it affects your appearance, and how to feel confident in front of a camera.

This is a half-day workshop that will take place on Saturday, January 21st, 2023, from noon to 4 pm EST in our Midtown New York studio.

Course nine will focus on diving deeper dive into your working knowledge and ability to use your camera in varying scenarios. I will outline several scenarios and give suggestions for setting starting points, whether you're shooting with a natural or synthetic light source. I will also show you additional lighting setups and introduce you to more niche light shaping tools. We will critique the last week's assignments after my demonstration.

Now that you have a basic understanding of your camera works, we will cover situational uses for varying settings and introduce advanced light shaping tools for strobes and alternatives for natural light shooters. I will share several standard still life setups with the group that can be used as a starting point for your creative work. We will also review last weeks homework assignments and help you further improve your technical skills.

Course seven will introduce you to and focus on your ability to use and understand your DSLR or Mirrorless digital camera. We will cover Camera settings, help you understand ISO, Shutter Speed, f. Stops and how these settings interact. I will assign homework assignments that focus on your ability to use your camera with either a natural light source or in tandem with a strobe.

Now that you have a grasp on the basics of still life lighting techniques, there are several technical tips that you can use to improve your photography further. We will discuss ideal lighting conditions, advanced lighting and styling tools, and technical issues that you may encounter. We will address the specific challenges you may have faced, and I will ask you to push beyond your comfort zone for your next assignment. We will also spend time critiquing and discussing last week's assignment with tips on further improving your photography. This is a 3 - 4 hour session, please plan accordingly.

Once you understand how light works, and how to manipulate it, you need to know some basic concepts regarding composition – how to position a piece or several pieces within a frame, keeping your designs in the center of focus, and understanding what makes a compelling still life photograph. We will also review fundamental photography theory. Participants will shoot and submit an image for critique and discussion. This is a 3 - 4 hour session, please plan accordingly.

Point of View or just POV with Alain Simić is a series that focuses on all things Aesthetic. Alain will discuss design, branding, visuals and what inspires his guests of industry leaders, designers and innovators.

I will load in an unretouched image and show you my workflow from start to finish as well. We will also review your retouching techniques from the previous session and help you improve your workflow moving forward. Participants will shoot and submit an image for critique and discussion. This is a 3 - 4 hour session; please plan accordingly.

Course four will help you build the foundations of an efficient and effective workflow for your images. We will review Photoshop basics as well as image file management. I will introduce you to the logic of photoshop, and a few basic toolsets to Participants will shoot, retouch, and submit an image for critique and discussion. This is a 3 - 4 hour session; please plan accordingly. I recommend all participants download Photoshop prior to attending this course.

This course will focus on educating jewellery designers in all phases of their careers about the nature of commercial photography. We will discuss how professional photography can enhance your business, increase sales, establish consumer trust and communicate your brand identity to prospective clients. I will cover the average jewellers long term photography needs, realistic expectations and market costs for professional photography services. The goal is to demystify what is typically a very intimidating process for many small businesses who need to be able to compete visually on a global stage, now more than ever.
